Student Council Subcommittees
To expand its operations and further involve the student body in the decision-making of the SC, the SC has created several subcommittees:
1. Events committee, which is primarily focused on organizing a large-scale celebration or event over the
course of this year.
2. Student activities committee, which is responsible for coordinating small events and activities regularly throughout the year as well as collaborating with other organizations within the school.
3. Senior school support, which actively works to improve careers and higher education
support for senior school students. This will include improving support for work experience and
university applications, for example, by organizing university application and interview workshops as
well as connecting students with potential work experience opportunities.
4. Public relations and media, which is responsible for further improving transparency within the SC, primarily on social media platforms.
5. School premises and campus committee, which is in charge of improving the school premises and environment, working closely with site managers as well as the canteen.

2014 Projects

The Lion Rock Music Festival
The original anual Lion Rock concert was a KGV tradition that everyone looked forward to. Since its discontinuation several years ago, KGV students have been seeking alternative platforms to showcase their talents. Finally, after 4 long years, the KGVSC is proud to announce the return of Lion Rock, and it’s going to be bigger and better. With the original Lion Rock as their inspiration, a committee of students, overseen by the KGVSC, will be organising a large scale charity music concert: The Lion Rock Music Festival, which will take place in June. With student bands, musicians and audiences from all across Hong Kong’s international schools, food and drinks, games and stalls, as well as a brand new field at KGV, this music festival will be a one-of-a-kind experience and will be a great way to celebrate the end of the school year, especially for those who have had exams.

Student Council Transparency and Communications project
To achieve transparency within the school, we've utilized several social media platforms, including Facebook, as well as this new SC website which will be regularly updated throughout the year. We aim also to achieve transparency across the board with other committees -- we've been working with prefects, house captains as well as the Student Leadership Team (SLT). We are also seeking to collaborate with other groups, such as the Alumni Association to open up more possibilities within the school.

Student Council Internal Reformations
In order to make the student council not only more productive and efficient, but also more focused, we've reorganized the structure of the SC dramatically. We've assigned a new set of roles -- scrapping away unnecessary duties and posts -- and placing more focus on tasks that directly benefit students. For example, the number of site managers and PTSA representatives have both been reduced from 3 to 2. This will also enable to SC to reach out to more people and allows for more possibilities within the school. We also have a new meeting structure which focuses on not only productivity but transparency. Agendas are regularly published on the SC website to inform the student body of what we're doing, how we're doing it, and what we hope to achieve in the future.

Art & Photography Exhibition
This year, the student council are introducing a new project where students can submit their best artworks; this could be anything from an oil painting to photographs. All students will be welcome to take part in this. The aim of this exhibition is to promote awareness of individual student's hobbies and talents and also a way to brighten up the whole school environment. An exhibition with all the submitted artworks will be put on display in the hall (or a similar venue) where the rest of the school can view them. A voting panel will be put up on the first floor of the Performing Arts Block in which students can vote for their favourite artworks. The winning artworks will then be put on display all around the school as a way to liven up the school.

Kashy Keegan live at KGV
We were fortunate enough to land an opportunity to have British singer/songwriter Kashy Keegan, known for his Hong Kong number 1 song ‘This Is My Dream’, come to KGV for a guest performance and visit.
Kashy’s story was one of perseverance. His songs are uplifting and contain messages of encouragement. He had an inspirational story to tell about pursuing goals and dreams and the determination, focus and dedication that it takes to achieve them.
As well as perform his well known hit song 'This Is My Dream' he talked about his own inspirational story, how he has overcome many obstacles along the way in achieving his goals, and answered any questions that students had and offered advice about pursuing a career in music and the performing arts.
